Official GHOST TRAIN Launch Party at Solid State Books, October 16, 2024; 7-9pm.

Natalie was interviewed by SSB owner Scott Abel in a discussion about GHOST TRAIN, living in Japan, her research, and more, followed by questions with an audience photos, refreshments, and book signing. Solid State Books, Washington, DC.

Natalie was joined by fellow author and journalist Diana Parsell (Eliza Scidmore) on a discussion about the importance of Meiji Era folklore and relations between the U.S. and Japan, and how the events of 1877 still affect us today. Takoma Park, MD.

Member Author Talk at National Press Club, October 29, 6-7pm.

Natalie joined in a conversation moderated by Press Club President Emily Wilkins (CNBC), about GHOST TRAIN, the research and journalism in the project, her experience as a reporter in Japan, and engaged in audience questions. Washington, DC.

Queer Horror Talk with Ciera Burch at Little District Books, October 30, 7-8pm.

Natalie and Ciera discussed their latest books, GHOST TRAIN and SOMETHING KINDRED, at DC's leading queer-centric bookstore in Washington, DC. They discussed the status of the publishing world, writing paranormal, and writing queer.

Moderated Book Talk at The Hudson School (with Little City Books), November 20, 6:30-8pm.

Natalie was in conversation with Japan Culture-NYC's founder Susan Miyagi McCormac about her debut novel GHOST TRAIN at Hoboken's leading private school, The Hudson School, in partnership with Little City Books of New Jersey.

Natalie's first-ever Yokai talk at Japan Society, the 117-year old--and oldest in the U.S.-organization that celebrates and promotes Japanese culture, was moderated by Susan Miyagi McCormac of Japan Culture-NYC, and joined by Posman Books.

Writing Workshop, Historical Fiction at Sterling Library, Feb 20, 7pm.

Join Natalie to learn about how to manage writing a historical fiction and balancing fact with fiction - and maybe a little fantasy.

Meet local DC Author of Ghost Train at Barnes & Noble, Fairfax, Feb 23, 12 - 3pm.

Teens: Learn about the real yokai behind anime at Dulles Town Center Chantilly, VA, March 6, 5pm.

Youths of all ages joined Natalie at a Loudon-county sponsored event to learn about Japanese folklore, and had a chance to create their own lore.

Writing Workshop - Editing at Gum Spring Library, March 17, 7pm.

Natalie advised a writing group on editing their manuscript around pacing, clarity, and trimming out fluff.

Local authors in conversation about history of sakura at Old Ox Brewery, March 20, 6:30pm.

Natalie and Diana Parsell were in conversation around the US-Japan history of cherry blossom exchange, for the first day of spring!

Writing Group - Querying at Gum Spring Library - March 24, 7pm.

Natalie and husband Max lectured all about querying, and the legal process and protections/rights in becoming a published author.

Youth learn about the real yokai behind anime at Cleveland Elementary School on March 26, in the afternoon.

Japan-America Society partnered with Natalie to host a talk with youth about Japanese folklore, and had a chance to create their own lore.
 

JAPAN EMBASSY, DC: Unmasking Japanese Folklore: Fact, Fiction, and Forgotten Histories at the JICC DC- August 14, 6:30pm

The Embassy of Japan invited Natalie Jacobsen to provide a lecture on Meiji-Era Folklore and how the Industrial Revolution changed the culture of storytelling in Japan - forever. Sake tasting and displays of Edo-era miniatures, Meiji-era kites, and woodblock prints courtesy of the Librry of Congress were all on display and available for patrons at the sold-out event, too.
